Artscool, North Ayrshire Council’s project to encourage out-of-school participation in the arts, is now in its second year and has been expanded to incorporate a further 21 schools involving a total of 41 across the authority.

Thanks to New Opportunities Fund money, the Rural Artscool Project has been set up and will start by offering taster workshops at the seven primary schools on the island of Arran this month.

Summer workshops in art, music, dance and drama will follow during July across the region, led by 30 arts specialists.

After the success of a performance project last October, a summer theatre project is planned at St Michael’s Academy, Kilwinning, on July 1-5 for 11 to 14-year-old pupils at Ardrossan, Auchenharvie, Garnock, Irvine Royal and St Michael’s academies. The project will culminate in a performance for parents and friends at the end of the week.
