All 93 staff, including the principal and 77 teachers, at an underperforming school in the US state of Rhode Island have been sacked. The move followed failure by management and unions to reach agreement on turning it around. Federal law allows this in cases where a “transformational” model cannot proceed. Just 7 per cent of 11th graders (15 to 16-year olds) at Central Falls High School were proficient in maths in 2009.
