The National Primary Headteachers Association creativity conference last weekend was enlivened when a three-piece jazz band marched into the hall and struck up. As heads were roused from pre-lunch reveries, John Gawthorpe, chairman of the association, beamed. It was probably pure coincidence that the tune was “When the Saints, go marching in” and that Gawthorpe is a dedicated “Saints” (Southampton Football Club) fan.
