Bart McGettrick, another globe-trotter who doubles as principal of St Andrew’s College in Glasgow, recently encountered the ultimate in experiential learning during a visit to Zagreb to discuss validation of courses offered by St Andrew’s.
“An eccentric Jesuit, aged 87, with a metre-long beard took us into a cemetery in pitch darkness to experience faith and education. That meant feeling the texture of what he called the headstones, which turned out to be wooden crosses,” McGettrick recalls.
As a lesson it worked. He has been reflecting on the experience ever since.
