The first group of successful candidates for the GTC’s new teaching scholarships reveal a wide range of interests.

Eileen Burke, a teacher at Craiglockhart primary in Edinburgh, plans to visit and observe teachers promoting learning through music in the early years, while Roderick Smith, a science teacher at Tain Royal Academy, wats to develop his interest in working on outdoor education with pupils who have behavioural difficulties.

Ruth Mackenzie, Sandwick Junior High in Shetland, and Judith Philip, Drakies primary in Inverness, will use their grants to study the renowned early years work of schools in the Reggio Emilia area of northern Italy.
