I commend Duncan Grey for raising the profile of the library in school (TES Magazine, April 20), but does he imagine the goodies mentioned fall from the sky and arrange themselves neatly to be used? Let’s hear it for the hard-working school librarians who carefully put together this “centre for reading, resources, for learning, for research and for discovery”. They are often experts in ICT, teach research skills, their book knowledge is second to none, and they are frequently very well qualified. Sadly, they also suffer from lack of recognition and struggle to acquire a realistic budget to keep the library up to date and relevant.

A word of thanks means a lot.
