The largest local authority in England is to axe its school libraries, raising fears for the service elsewhere. Kent County Council has told its schools they will have to borrow from local libraries instead. Schools in Kent will only be able to borrow 100 books for eight weeks at a time from local libraries or free. The move follows decisions by Cambridgeshire and Solihull to shut their school libraries earlier in the year.
