Jamie Oliver and TES team up to make your class a record-breaker
Jamie Oliver and TES are working together to get thousands of classes around the globe involved in a unique attempt to break the world record for the largest-ever cooking lesson.
The celebrated food campaigner will stream live through TES Connect and TES Australia into classrooms on 16 May.
The free lesson will be aimed at 10- and 11-year-olds and will see Jamie lead students through the preparation of a simple vegetarian “rainbow wrap”. The cooking itself can easily be undertaken in a normal classroom.
The recipe – for which TES and Jamie are preparing a special set of lesson resources – has been designed to be as accessible to as many schools around the world as possible.
Jamie said: “Getting kids cooking from as early as possible helps them to develop an essential life skill which will have a huge impact on their future health and wellbeing.
“Thanks to TES, I can personally present a cooking lesson to many thousands of school kids all over the world.
“I’m also hoping to break a world record for the largest number of people all cooking the same meal within a 24-hour period and we’ve got amazing ambassadors and friends all over the world planning to make this a huge global event.”
The live cooking lesson will be the focal point of 2014’s Food Revolution Day, an initiative run by the Jamie Oliver Food Foundation, which aims to bring food educationists, campaigners, parents and teachers together to campaign for healthy eating.
Louise Rogers, CEO of TSL Education, TES parent company, said: “We are delighted to be working with Jamie Oliver on such an exciting – and potentially record-breaking – project.
“It is a pairing of two truly global brands. That we are able to give Jamie access to thousands of classrooms around the world is an illustration of the strength of our worldwide network of teachers. It will be a fabulous live event that is sure to excite schools all over the globe.
“Playing a part Jamie’s campaign to develop a healthy-eating culture among the world’s children is fantastically exciting for both myself and the wider TES family.”
