Schools are on track to hit the target;Local authority test results

The figures below show the proportion of pupils reaching expected levels of attainment (level 4) for their age in each of the core subjects in this summer’s national curriculum tests. National averages (England only) are given at the bottom. Schools in most areas have made substantial gains on last year, and seem to be capable of reaching the Government’s target: 80 per cent of 11-year-olds (key stage 2) to achieve level 4 in English and 75 per cent in maths, by 2002.

No targets have been set for key stages 1 or 3.
