Angus, Dundee and Perth and Kinross councils have collaborated in the production of a national Improving Science Education 5-14 pack, to be launched on June 16.

The pack on “Living Things and the Processes of Life” comprises a DVD showing examples of effective classroom practice in 5-14 science and a CD-Rom containing related teaching materials and further information for teachers and trainers.

Video clips show teachers working in classroom situations, demonstrating teaching strategies that have worked well. Topics include interactive teaching, interactive learning, developing skills, developing understanding and planning for improvement. The CD-Rom also includes health and safety information, lesson plans and concise teacher notes.

It is anticipated that the pack will be used by individual teachers as well as by groups during more formal CPD activities. It will be distributed free of charge to every school. Thereafter, additional copies will be available from Angus Council.
