What it’s all about
From permanent rainbows to instant snow, sarahlouiseharris has shared some active science ideas for the early years foundation stage and key stage 1 (P1-3). The activities use everyday objects to encourage pupils’ sensory engagement with the world. They include:
- fire spreads - water is dropped on paper to show how it spreads. This can stimulate discussions about the spread of fire and its dangers;
- fish tank - using food colouring, detergent, sand and balloons, pupils create artificial fish and see them swim in their fish tank. A creative introduction to studying sea life.
Climate challenge
National Climate Week (12-18 March) aims to get the whole country to share ideas, develop new collaborations, work with peers and inspire others to act on climate change. The week is shaped by events such as the Climate Week Challenge, when thousands of schools and workplaces will have five hours to simultaneously tackle a climate-themed task. Winning teams will get the chance to take part in Creative Innovation Workshops run by major companies such as Tesco. Teams should be of four to six people.
