A new law is being considered to ban the Scientology movement opening up schools for the children of its members from Germany.
Scientologists are not allowed to run schools in Germany. The Scientologists have two schools at Landtoft, 10 kilometres from the German border, which have no Danish pupils. The movement has informed its local council that the number of pupils will be doubling from the next school year at a cost of Pounds 260,000, equivalent to a 1 per cent rise in the local income tax rate.
A ministerial committee is now investigating whether it is reasonable for the state to fund a school for foreigners’ children. “We don’t mind them being here, we just don’t want to pay for them,” said Karen Andresen, Lundtoft’s mayor.
