Harvey McGavin, in his Object Lesson on Wellington Boots (Friday, October 27th), referred to the “English” army which wellington commanded at Waterloo. British troops were in a minorit in the allied army and a large proportion of the UK troops Irish or Scottish. So Wellington’s army was far from “English”.
