Scottish teachers are again a step ahead of their colleagues south of the border with the announcement of the Computers for Teachers program. Teachers buying computers to the specification laid down by Learning and Teaching Scotland (basically up-to-date Windows PCs and Apple Macs) are entitled to a tax-free subsidy of pound;200. The Scottish subsidy appears to have gone much further and caused less frustraton. The first phase reached about 10 per cent of Scotland’s 45,000 teachers.
Richard Pietrasik, executive director of Learning and Teaching Scotland, said: “We were very happy with the first round. This one will help up to 3,500 teachers.”
Teachers who have bought “approved” since the first phase can get the new subsidy as long as they have proof of purchase.
