THE Government should introduce a national screening programme for the cystic fibrosis gene, said Howard Cuckle, professor of reproductive epidemiology at Leeds University.

Screening of parent could cut the number with the condition by half, he said. It was scandalous that there was no national scheme as the gene causing cystic fibrosis had been known for more than 10 years.
