Highland councillors are calling on the expertise of the police and a psychiatric hospital to improve school security. The moves are among a number of “holding” measures, pending the Cullen inquiry’s report on the Dunblane massacre.

An experiment with external cameras is already under way at Inverness High, which officials hope will pay for itself by a reduction in vandalism. Damage to the school between April and June was estimated at Pounds 1,100.
