THE controversy over the future of selective education in Ripon, North Yorkshire, will be reignited next week if proposals for a city-wide referendum on the issue are approved.
Last year, pro-selection campaigners were victorious in a parental ballot on the future ofthe 11-plus exam, but a resident claims to have secured the 10 people needed to force Ripon council to vote on whether to hold a city-wide ballot. A council spokeswoman confirmed that a decision would be taken at the authority’s annual parish meeting on Monday.
