Send for Osler - again

He may be lost to Scottish education, but it seems Northern Ireland just can’t get enough of Douglas Osler, former head of our inspectorate.

After being summoned to the province to sort out child protection procedures in 1998 and join an inquiry team into sexual abuse at a boarding school in 2004, Osler has now been appointed as one of four commissioners - chairing them, no less - to run the South Eastern Education and Library Board. An inevitable elevation, really.

This follows the board’s failure “to give effect to a resource allocation plan allowing it to live within its 2006-07 budget” - exotic stuff indeed.

Osler’s will be a strong team steeped in the ways of “finance, governance and accountability”, the official statement said. It had to be Osler.
