The German state of North Rhine-Westphalia is planning to educate boys separately from girls following an incident when an 18-year-old wounded 37 teachers and students in a shooting spree at an Emsdetten school. State education minister Barbara Sommer said that boys had different needs than girls and must be educated in a different way. Boys, rather than girls, she noted, had been responsible for most school violence.
