Will it be Ale or will it be Harpic? The answer it seems, sadly, is neither.

Suggestions for a new name for the Secondary Heads Association have ranged from the Association of Leaders in Education to Heads And Relevant Persons In Colleges.

Yesterday though, when the SHA’s council met in Sheffield to decide, the vote was expected to go to Association for School and College Leaders, or ASCoL.

A ballot of SHA’s 12,000 members suggests that the title is the most popular, beating the similar-sounding Schools and College Leaders Association or SCoLA.

The new name will come into effect on January 1 once approved.
