The woes of three councils in pushing through a schools rationalisation package linked to public private partnerships featured recently in The TES Scotland. But why have things gone through so quietly in North Lanarkshire?
It could be the ultra-generous package whereby any teacher over the age of 50 affected by closures can take early retirement with up to 10 years’ enhancement.
Or could a major selling point be the council’s promise to restore external shelters - better known as the sheds. Many teachers have lamented the demise of the sheds as they justified herding pupils out of school on inclement days.
