Sheffield: Language games set tongues wagging

Sheffield Hallam University has launched Language Olympics, a scheme to get children interested in languages at a young age.

The idea is that children compete in sporting events using a foreign language.

The project is part of the Routes into Languages programme, a four-year government-funded project that aims to increase take-up of foreign language courses in higher education.

Matthew Hunt, from the Sheffield Business School, based at Sheffield Hallam, said: "Languages are an essential part of the modern business world, and the more business students we have learning languages, the stronger the economy will be in the future."
