Name: Anna Hassan. Position: Headteacher of Millfields community school, London borough of Hackney. Q If you had David Blunkett’s budget what would your priority be?

A I would want every primary school to have a bursar. I would set up a specific qualification for bursars and senior admin officers that would train them to manage school budgets. Headteachers would then be able to concentrate on raising standards.

Q If you had a blank cheque for your own school what would you buy?

A I would refurbish the toilets and most of the classrooms. A bright, clean environent is important. It shows pupils that they’re respected. I’d also employ classroom assistants in every classroom. And I’d pay the governors an allowance.

Q What treat would you buy yourself?

A I’d treat myself to a trip around the world, but not by plane. in each country, I’d buy myself a pair of shoes and matching handbag. When my treat was over, I’d share the trip with the pupils, through the shoes. What fun we would have!
