Independent schools will get the same short-notice inspections used in state schools from January, Ofsted announced today.
The new system will bring the private and state schools under the same inspection regime, with visits at two days’ notice and the introduction of the same self-evaluation forms. The rules will apply to 1,100 private schools, which are not members of the Independent Schools Council. These schools will also be inspected more often, changing from one every six years to one every three years. In 2008, light-touch inspections will be introduced for successful schools.
