Should I visit the schools in the area and send a CV? Or will heads be too busy to see me?
A: For the first time in many years, primary schools in many parts of the UK can “pick and choose”. If you are moving to a new area, you should do all you can to let schools know you are available. Send your CV to schools and ring to check that they have received it. While you’re about it, ask if they would like you to drop in for a chat. You have nothing to lose, and they can only say no. You may find out from the secretary how well off they are for supply staff.
As more out-of-work teachers adopt these strategies, it will be harder to make an impact. Don’t forget agencies. Schools may think that with so many teachers looking for work they can avoid agency fees, but some heads won’t want the extra paperwork and will still want an agency do it all for them.
