Linda Gibson, headteacher at St Luke’s, said the design was part of a competition aimed at encouraging motorists to slow down when passing through thecity’s Fagley Estate, and near the school. She said the area lay within a ring road and was a constant danger for children as cars used the estate as a short cut. The competition, run by Bradford’s Road Safety Team, was open to junior children from schools in the area.
