* A panel of pupil experts caused hilarity with their answers to questions on homework and study. Andrew McAllister, of Bellshill Academy, admitted that silence was needed. “But most times I think it’s too quiet and I switch on the radio. You need something to take your mind off it.”
* Glen Mitchell, of Castlebrae Community High, Edinburgh, said that homework in primary school was a punishment. He had gradually got into the way of doing it - by third year in secondary.
* Others had been involved in a summer study scheme. Corrienne McCulloch, of Liberton High, Edinburgh, said: “I wouldn’t be here today without it. It’s good to see that teachers are just ordinary human beings.”
