Skills council stands up for a boost to FE’s profile

I was delighted to read your article (“Our aim: raising national profile and status of FE”, November 23) and the supporting editorial on FE’s reputation. I wish Alison Birkinshaw and the new FE Reputation Steering Group good luck in the work they are undertaking.

The editorial stated that we have “been here before” under Agenda for Change. However, I think it is important to clarify that the new steering group is actually a continuation of previous work on reputation.

It seemed nonsensical to me that the Learning and Skills Council should lead such a group, so as part of the first fruits of the move to self- regulation, the chair passed to the sector itself.

The council continues to support the group in a variety of ways and see its success as central to the continued success of the FE sector overall.

Rob Wye, National Director of Strategy and Communications, Learning and Skills Council.
