Smile for the start of spring

The new year is a great time for newly qualified teachers. Freezing cold it may be, but there is every reason to feel positive at the start of the spring term.

If you started your first teaching job in September, then the hardest part of your induction year is over - and with any luck you’ll be well into your stride by now. But even if you’re just starting out, you can be reassured that the children you’re teaching are probably just as full of new year’s resolutions as you are.

Among all your fresh starts, don’t forget that now is the ideal time to start preparing for the exams season, as our front page feature makes clear.

Readers often say the best parts of TES Extra: New Teachers are the ones about the real experiences of other NQTs. If you want to share what you’ve learnt since you left training, or if you have a problem that calls for expert advice, or you want to tell your peers your true confessions, then do write to us.
