Do I detect a touch of inverted snobbery in the article about the Prince of Wales’s summer school (TES, July 2)? Alternatively, do you begrudge me my meeting with the Prince of Wales and the admittedly indulgent weekend at the Palace Hotel in Buxton?
I spent an extremely intense and immensely rewarding four days, which have re-invigorated my teaching and given me more confidence in my own abilities to deliver a stimulating and exciting history curriculum.
It was encouraging that the sponsors thought I was important enough to spend money on to debate issues concerning my subject - yes it was very comfortable and I was treated like royalty but it was good to think that I am worth that time and money. Regardless of whether Prince Charles was educated in the state or private sector, his comments resonated with many of the teachers. Those people who make the policies also listened to us and hopefully they will act on our concerns.
I hope the summer school goes from strength to strength and that others will have the same opportunity to listen, learn and be refreshed by the quality of speakers, surroundings and policy-makers.
