Adi Bloom’s article “Teachers forced to become assistants” (TES, June 10) makes truly saddening reading.
It is irresponsible of the Teacher Training Agency and the Government to recruit so many would-be primary teachers and then allow market forces and underfunded planning, preparation and assessment time to deprive them of the occupation for which many have worked so hard and so committedly.
The least that could be done is for England to emulate Scotland and guarantee newly-qualified teachers a post for at least their first year.
If it can happen north of the border, why not here?
