The manager of the camp in south Wales said that he was impressed by the way youngsters on the Get REAL scheme had mixed with each other and visiting teenagers from as far afield as Japan.
Les Beddoes, manager of the PGL Tan Troed camp, added: “When kids come here from the cities it takes them out of their comfort zone. They may never have gone half a mile from their homes and suddenly they are in a wide-open space in the middle of the Brecon Beacons with no buildings in sight,” he said.
For a 14-year-old from Norfolk making new friends was the best part of the adventure.
Laurie-Anne Jackson, who is being educated at home, said: “I didn’t know anyone here before and I feel part of a family now.
“I was worried about getting covered in the mud, because it stank - but that’s part of the fun.”
