THE Government’s programme to transform social services for children, Quality Protects, is proving a success, a report has said.
Tracking progress in children’s services by Diana Robbins, evaluated the project’s first year. It found that social service departments had made huge leaps in monitoring performance.
However, an Audit Commissin review of social services in Birmingham found that its services were “patchy with some cause for concern”.
The commission said one in 10 of all those looked after - 175 children in all - had not been allocated a social worker; a quarter did not have a care plan and 30 per cent were overdue for a statutory six-month case review.
