Some small ideas

Loreto High is not the only secondary using the best of primary practice to "blur the boundaries" between primary and secondary (TES, October 5). The Human Scale Schools Project supports more than 30 secondaries in the UK that are committed to creating small-scale learning environments.

Schools ensure students have a greater sense of belonging by planning the curriculum so that it can be taught by small, cross-curricular teams and involving students in the design of "schools within schools" as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme. The challenge is to build relationships in a school community that enable all young people to engage with learning.
