Song of praise for music teachers

THE quality of much of the music teaching in schools is outstanding, according to a new report by the Office for Standards in Education.

Inspectors said that unsatisfactory music teaching was rare and concluded that the best music tutors were those who maximised the time available for playing and improvising and avoided unnecessary emphasis on de-coding notation and correcting small mistakes.'LEA Music Services: Survey of Good Practice' is available at www.ofsted.gov.uk.
