* I wanted my Year 9 form to see how our choice of words can colour meaning. Foolishly I asked: "What's the difference between a terrorist and a freedom fighter?" One of the boys responded: "I don't know what the second one is, but the first is when you have a row of houses next to each other."


* A Year 34 class tackling a pece of English comprehension were asked:

"Are all parts of the body equally important?" One boy wrote: "Some parts of the body are more impotent than others."

Mercifully he didn't specify which ones.


* Teacher: "What are you in detention for?" Pupil: "Being rude to a refill teacher."
