Sounds like a student body

GCSE and A-level biology students are being invited to find out what their bodies sound like at an interactive exhibition which opens today at the Explore science centre in Bristol. The “Molecular Music” exhibit was developed by biochemist and musician Dr Linda Long, using a pound;50,000 award from the National Endowment for Science Technology and the Arts.

Dr Long discovered that the complex and varied shapes of proteins in the body could be translated into strings of musical notes using a computer programme. The scientist was struck by the educational potential of the technique, and believes it is an accessible tool for teaching the complexities of protein data. Further information is available from her website: www.molecularmusic.com
