The Scottish Office has set up a 15-strong committee to find ways to improve the education and training of young people with special needs after they leave school.

Brian Wilson, the Education Minister, said the committee’s remit would cover young people with behavioural problems and those at risk because of low achievement, as well as people with learning problems and disabilities.

The committee will focus on assessment procedures, improving services and the transition from school. It will be chaired by Robert Beattie, community investment co-ordinator with IBM.
