Seventy-nine more schools across England have been given specialist status, ministers announced this week. This means that 92 per cent of secondaries are now specialist. The status gives the schools a one-off pound;100,000 to improve facilities and extra funding per pupil every year. Elizabeth Reid, chief executive of the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust, congratulated the schools and said it showed their commitment to raising standards.
