THE most effective way to reduce the number of deaths on the road is to reduce speed says Mary Williams of Brake, the road safety group.

She pointed out that in urban areas where child road-injury rates are the highest, 70 per cent ofdrivers break the speed limit.But Dave Rogers of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents said driving skills were also important.
