Spend to add credit

You feel marginally less guilty about a credit-card spending spree when you know that someone else also benefits from the blow-out.

Affinity credit cards, whereby a proportion of credit-card spending goes to charity, an arts project or other good cause, are flavour of the month. The introduction of the Governor and Teacher Services Credit Card, launched with the Abbey National last summer, means that schools also benefit.

For every successful card application Pounds 5 goes to the school. Subsequently for every Pounds 100 spent, 25p goes to the school and the school also gains Pounds 2 for every year the card is used. So far, 250 schools have registered with the scheme.
