Famous sporting figures will visit schools in five areas of the country over the next two months in a pilot scheme encouraging children, teachers and parents to take part in a wide range of sports. The sporting ambassadors will encourage links between schools and clubs, promote the value of sport, the concept of fair play and motivate girls to participate.
The full scheme will be launched in September when the Sports Council will also announce details of its scheme whereby schools can use National Lottery money to hire sports coaches.
