Andrea Brown is a teacher at Hungerford Primary School

We had made many visits to the Roman baths at Bath but they were getting very crowded, so when another teacher mentioned Chedworth I thought we’d give it a try. We’d studied the Romans all term so we thought this would be a good culmination for the topic. To give the pupils a little extra preparation we watched a helpful video in which Adam Hart-Davis talked about the legacy of the Romans. My colleague contacted the education officer at Chedworth, Sue Pardoe, who faxed us a timetable the same day.

We found that they had thought a lot about the little things. At the end of the day, the pupils were given a gift bag which had been prepaid. The guides were outstanding - knowledgable and entertaining. The hands-on sessions worked well, the pupils enjoyed dressing up and having the bag of spices to take home. Because the children were already familiar with the topic, they got a lot out of the visit. My only suggestion for improvement would be a central lunch area.
