Spread the good music further

I HAD the privilege of attending the Schools Prom at the Royal Albert Hall as a guest of the National Union of Teachers. It was marvellous.

The talent, technical expertise and enthusiasm of all the performers and the genuine support of a knowledgeable audience made it a wonderful and inspirational evening. The compering and presentation were totally professional.

This stunning event is a showcase for all that is best in our education system - pupils, teachers, parents and local authorities in creative partnership.

Why then desn't it receive wider public acclaim? Think of the popularity of the BBC's Young Musician of the Year.

If the Schools Prom were televised in the presence of David Blunkett, Tony Blair or members of the Royal Family, I am sure it would do far more for teacher recruitment than any advertising campaign.

Congratulations to The TES for co-sponsoring this event. May I ask that you take up my suggestion for next year?
