The Scottish Arts Council has produced a new guide to support those who want to bring a small-scale show to their local venue but don't know where to start.

Don't Panic!: a guide for local arts promoters, written by Duncan MacInnes, covers all aspects of promoting shows and includes tips on choosing performers, understanding the technical requirements, such as lighting for different venues, how to sell the show, as well as researching and developing likely audiences.

The guide was developed after UK-wide research which showed that most shows presented outside main cities, particularly in rural Scotland, would not have been possible without the involvement of voluntary promoters.

Copies of Don't Panic! are available from the Scottish Arts Council help desk, tel 0845 603 6000 or www.scottisharts.org.uk
