The Scottish Further Education Unit has chosen to make an interim appointment as its new chief executive.

Brian Lister, principal of Cumbernauld College, will take over from Alison Reid in April and will work for two and a half days a week at the SFEU while continuing as principal at Cumbernauld. This arrangement will continue until the end of the year.

Christina Potter, chair of the SFEU’s board of management and principal of Elmwood College in Fife, commented: “To have a serving principal at the helm of SFEU at this time has many advantages and will ensure that we work closely with the colleges and also with other support agencies in helping to shape and develop the sector.”

Mr Lister is described as combining strong leadership and communications skills with a passion for FE.

He had a background in the scientific civil service and secondary schools before joining the staff of Lauder College where he became depute principal in 1996. He has been principal at Cumbernauld since 1999.
