Standards are an issue for all

WITHOUT engaging in a debate about the merits of grammar schools, I really must set the record straight regarding David Normington's recent speech to Kent heads, teachers and governors.

With that elegant balance and objectivity which distinguishes the best of public servants, he talked about the raising standards agenda.

His talk did certainly not amount to an attack on grammar schools. His remarks were about indifferent performance in all schools - views which certainly have my support.
