At least 5 per cent of the 10,000 schools in Malaysia will be accorded a "five-star" rating under the Smart Schools Qualification Standards (SSQS) before the end of the year. Education director-general Tan Sri Alimuddin Mohd Dom said this was in line with his ministry's target to make all schools achieve "smart school" status. Alimuddin said he hoped that 75 per cent of the schools would attain a minimum "three- star" score by the end of the year.
