PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

* There is a 20 per cent drop between P7 and S1 in the proportion of pupils walking to school

* 1 in 3 boys and 1 in 6 girls do moderate physical activity for at least an hour five days a week

* More than 2 out of 3 boys say they enjoy doing physical education a lot, but less than half of girls say they do

* 38 per cent of 15-year-old boys and 23 per cent of 15-year-old girls meet the recommended guidelines for physical activity EATING HABITS

* 25 per cent of boys and 29 per cent of girls aged 15 eat fruit at least once a day

* 54 per cent of boys and 45 per cent of girls aged 15 consume sugary soft drinks every day SMOKING

* 14 per cent of boys and 24 per cent of girls aged 15 are likely to be regular smokers

* 5 per cent of boys and 7 per cent of girls aged 13 are regular smokers

* 15 per cent of boys and 24 per cent of girls aged 15 smoked in 2000, and the figures remained the same in 2004 ALCOHOL

* More girls than boys drink

* 20 per cent of 13-year-olds and 43 per cent of 15-year-olds drank alcohol in the week before the 2004 health survey

* 52 per cent of 15-year-old boys and girls reported being drunk on two or more occasions DRUGS

* Slightly more boys than girls use drugs

* 20 per cent of 15-year-olds reported using drugs in the month before the 2004 survey

* 19 per cent of 15-year-olds reported using cannabis (the most frequently used drug) in the past month MENTAL WELL-BEING

* 46 per cent of pupils say they are very happy at school

* 24 per cent of pupils say they like school

* About a third of 15-year-olds do not like school

* Fewer than 10 per cent of boys but more than 10 per cent of girls aged 13 and 15 say they are unhappy
