Still time to check out our free Web site

Since The TES set up its own site on the Internet earlier this year, nearly 15,000 people in 89 countries have registered to view the on-line version of the newspaper and have explored the extra services designed for education.

As well as a selection of stories from the week’s edition of the paper, the Net site has a database holding all the articles from The TES from the past two years - an archive that is proving popular with schools needing instant reference material. Instead of hunting through a stack of yellowing paper to find a review or a report on a curriculum document, you can search the on-line archive from your desk, giving you quick access to tens of thousands of news stories and reviews.

As you might expect, the service is not free. From April 28, there will be an annual charge to gain access to Network, the section of the site that includes the archive of articles and reviews. As well as unlimited use of these searchable databases, the subscription will give readers access to hundreds of links to educational services on the Internet, from school management material from the Department for Education and Employment to an on-line gallery of paintings in the Louvre’s Net site.

But the best way of finding out what’s on offer is to take a look yourself - while everything is still free. After April 28, the price for an annual subscription is going to be Pounds 99, with a Pounds 10 discount for early payment. If you want details of what is on offer and how to make sure that you’re connected to this educational gateway to the Internet, contact Sean Coughlan, The TES, Admiral House, 66-68 East Smithfield, London E1 9XY.
